Business Waste Recycling Project
The ICoC’s Business Waste Recycling Project ran from 1st December 2009 to 31st March 2011, providing free, independent recycling & reuse advice and assistance to businesses and third sector organisations in Islington. The Chamber will continue to offer basic guidance and support to those businesses wishing to find out more about improving their business waste recycling.
Achievements
In total the project assisted over 250 businesses and third sector organisations including local charities and community groups.
A number of events were organised including a project launch event at Sadler’s Wells theatre, an awards ceremony to recognise the environmental achievements and efforts of businesses and third sector organisations in the borough, and London’s first Business Give or Take Day which helped re-home twenty chairs, eighteen tables and desks, eleven cabinets, four bookshelves, two coat stands and a variety of TV’s, printers and telephones.
A number of competitions and trips were also organised by the Project Officer, including a battery recycling competition and two site visits to a £7 million MRF recycling facility in East London.
The project also sponsored categories at the 2010 Islington in Bloom awards and the 2010 Giant Green Business Awards.
The Project was also shortlisted for the following awards:
- Finalist for the “Best London Regeneration Project”, London Business Awards 2010
- Shortlisted for Sustainability Project of the year, BusinessGreen Leaders Awards 2011
The ICoC Business Give or Take Days 2011/2012 have been funded by the Big Lottery Fund
